"Growing up in the 70's, the traditional path for a girl was to get married and have children. I felt frustrated, sidelined and invisible. My escape from these beliefs came during carefree childhood holidays. Freedom to splash around in the sea, build sandcastles and run wild. And on weekends at a local farm to milk cows at dawn and ride horses bareback to and from the fields.
I remember, when I was 11, I entered an art competition and won first prize! It was the first time in my childhood I felt worthy and like life could be more than the expectations set out for me. From that day on, art gave me somewhere to express myself. It makes me happy and gives me the opportunity to spread happiness with everyone who views my work. I want my art to show people they determine their own path in life, to follow their own dreams and be true to themselves. My inspiration comes from great artists like Sorrolla and John Singer Sargent. Bright, sunny and radiant paintings which portray warmth and happiness. |
A self-taught artist, I work primarily in oils on canvas because I love the way the paint moves around, like painting with cream. Jeanni and I met at a Leading Women meeting in Cornwall several years ago and I was intrigued with her method of teaching. I sat her entire course and was particularly inspired by the way Jeanni teaches perspective. I highly recommend you give it a go!"
