My Teaching Method
"I believe experience is always the best teacher... it is the difference between me telling you to imagine eating a meal and actually doing it! The experiences you will have during my lessons can take you directly into the ‘right brain’ aspects of your personality. The right side of the brain has been shown by scientists to deal with intuition, senses and feelings, as well as with our ability to perceive shapes and spaces. In this mode you tend to naturally move away from self-criticism, lack of confidence and negative perceptions, which are associated more with left-brain thinking. Result.... your innate creativity just flows!
My senses-based approach removes the traditionally abstract, left-brained methods of teaching art. This makes my lessons both more ‘real’ and more fun, making the process of creating satisfying art much more easily understood and remembered.
I believe with this tool kit you have the mechanics required to create the optical illusions which we call art. Suddenly you are enabled to truly ‘see’, as an artist does. In this way you can self-correct and self-teach, no longer just blindly mimicking a teacher. This puts you in the creative driving seat!
These tool kit fundamentals are actually what were taught to the old masters from a very early age. The way I will teach them to you will become the building blocks, the structure, the driving lesson, alphabet and notation which give you your unique artistic ‘style’, including the belief to drive forward and the courage to express yourself through art. You will begin to see the world the way the old masters did!
David Hockney recently said: ‘You can teach the craft but not the music...’
I agree. I teach the craft. I also help to show you ways to add your own ‘music’ and creative magic
when you paint or draw, and I give you the sheer confidence to do it!"
