SketchCourse 1
Draw Out Your Potential Sketch A fun and informative experience which allows you to understand how we see and translate our environment though our eyes and emotions. You will learn how to convert this knowledge into three- dimensional engaging images and understand how and why the viewer, of your art works, sees and translates them in their own unique way. My lessons are all about knowledge not just copying. This means you will gain a skill set of knowledge and the confidence to enjoy creating your artworks whilst expressing yourself with your own unique artistic voice, as you can see above. You will complete the course with the eyes of an artist, with the ability to both look and also to truly see! |
PerspectiveCourse 2
Change Your Perspective Perspective An inspiring walk across a beautiful beach (or landscape) observing perspective in action. Experience as we all know is always the greatest teacher. I shall point out and explain theories of eye level, vanishing points, focal points, atmosphere, refection, distance, shadows, ratios, ellipses and much more in a fun and engaging way, so you can see and experience perspective first hand. I have worked with a wide variety of people and a number of architects. All have commented on my unique approach and how easy it is to understand the sometimes complex concepts of perspective. As the course progresses I draw up the required information to remind you of all the concepts we cover. |
PaintCourse 3
See The Bigger Picture Paint The paint course can stand alone but also consolidates the previous two courses, by adding colour and paint to your knowledge base. You will learn about colour theory, atmospheric perspective, some of the history of specific colours and the different paint types available and what the benefits and characteristics of each are. You will also experience different paint brushes and specific techniques and methods to enhance direction, shape, mood, depth of field, focal areas and emotional engagement. The course closes with the completion of your own painting en plein-air whenever possible. |
Pick a Subject...This was a novice student in her 90's after completing the three part course and a couple more lessons.
|
Pick your Medium...This gentleman was also a novice and completed this beautiful portrait soon after completing my unique art course.
|
Develop your own Style...This young man was a school student. He completed my course and then we started to develop his love of architecture.

"My three 3-hour lessons give you the basic fundamentals and building blocks of art. In this way I allow you to "truly see" whist understanding how to confidently translate what you see to paper or canvas. You will learn to use the knowledge of the old masters whilst breaking down the fears, habits and programming which may be holding you back. This knowledge can then be applied to a variety of mediums.
. . . All you need to do is add your own personal magic!
My lessons are a good springboard to start you off or to extend you present knowledge and expertise, fitting seamlessly with any other art classes or courses you may undertake.
I work with anyone of any age from total novices to professional artists".

"My art courses cover the core fundamental knowledge required to understand Sketch, Perspective and Paint and will only enhance any other art lessons you may have undertaken.
I use a unique mixture of Psychology, Physiology and Physics to explain how our mindset, physical position and core fundamental knowledge effect our outcomes in art and so much more.

"Jeanni is a phenomenal teacher. Not only in her artistic advice (which is always spot on) but also in the guidance and support she has given me to complete my recent ten hour art exam. Every lesson I had was fun interesting and totally transformed the way I draw, paint and even how I look at the world. I was also overwhelmed by the extent to which she offered her help between lessons through phone calls and emails, I would recommend her lessons to anyone. Thank you Jeanni!"

"Jeanni…or jeanni-ous?
I’ve been painting and drawing forever and a day (and have even sold some paintings), but after spending 3 hours this morning with Jeanni Grant-Nelson ( www.art-jeanni.com), I am literally BURSTING to put pen (or pencil, or brush, or charcoal, or whatever!!!) to paper to try out my newly honed knowledge. I can quite honestly say, Jeanni’s name is more than apt! So look out people and objects around me…you WILL be drawn!
Previously I’ve pondered why I can’t get my paintings to look quite how I meant them to be, or I’ve been puzzled as to why I can’t get a certain part of my painting to recede or come forward when I want it to. Within the first 5 minutes of Jeanni’s lesson, I had a Eureka moment from her teaching and my understanding of WHY my paintings look wrong (in my eyes anyway…if you ask my Mom, she’ll probably still say “They’re fabulous, dear!”) and I was hooked!
No longer will I brood over why my colours don’t quite match the image I had envisaged or what my focal point is or how to tackle perspective…I’ve learned more this morning in those few hours than I have learned for the past ‘x’ number of years (not going to admit quite how many years, but you get my gist…!)
Jeanni’s enthusiasm and her eagerness to share her art knowledge is infectious and I felt like a 5 year old would feel when opening a huge sack of Christmas presents!
Why is it that we muddle on, thinking we can get by with the knowledge we have, when there are experts like Jeanni to learn from? If only I’d met her 30 odd years ago! Who knows where I’d be now and whether I would have been way more successful in selling my artwork? Shyness perhaps? Not wishing to appear stupid? Or maybe not feeling worthy? (Or all of those put together?) I can only URGE you to take a leap of faith, step up to the mark, take the plunge, whatever you want to call it, and contact Jeanni for lessons, for you or a loved one! I promise you, you’ll come bounding away, desperate to try out your newly learned skills.
That’s all for now….I’m off to dig out my paints…"

"Working with Jeanni created a further insight/perspective into skills that I did not know nor believed existed"
"Her intuitive, discerning and inspiring teaching builds your competence and confidence while quietly demonstrating that personal development is ongoing, continuous and can have no limits to what you can accomplish"
"Jeanni allows you to gain greater analytical insight into your visual world and expands your creative awareness/ capacities by working you to new limits. You reach a boundary, and then the boundary recedes before you"
"Had incredible fun while secretly and successfully creating a unique and personal wedding gift. For a complete non-drawer let alone painter, it gave a fine spirit of hope and achievement"

My Teaching Method
"I believe experience is always the best teacher... it is the difference between me telling you to imagine eating a meal and actually doing it! The experiences you will have during my lessons can take you directly into the ‘right brain’ aspects of your personality. The right side of the brain has been shown by scientists to deal with intuition, senses and feelings, as well as with our ability to perceive shapes and spaces. In this mode you tend to naturally move away from self-criticism, lack of confidence and negative perceptions, which are associated more with left-brain thinking. Result.... your innate creativity just flows!
My senses-based approach removes the traditionally abstract, left-brained methods of teaching art. This makes my lessons both more ‘real’ and more fun, making the process of creating satisfying art much more easily understood and remembered.
I believe with this tool kit you have the mechanics required to create the optical illusions which we call art. Suddenly you are enabled to truly ‘see’, as an artist does. In this way you can self-correct and self-teach, no longer just blindly mimicking a teacher. This puts you in the creative driving seat!
These tool kit fundamentals are actually what were taught to the old masters from a very early age. The way I will teach them to you will become the building blocks, the structure, the driving lesson, alphabet and notation which give you your unique artistic ‘style’, including the belief to drive forward and the courage to express yourself through art. You will begin to see the world the way the old masters did!
David Hockney recently said: ‘You can teach the craft but not the music...’
I agree. I teach the craft. I also help to show you ways to add your own ‘music’ and creative magic
when you paint or draw, and I give you the sheer confidence to do it!"
