This is my recent painting of Mawgan Porth. When I stand on the beach with my sketchbook or canvas, I’m always aware that the horizon isn’t just a line… it’s my eye level. It’s how I was seeing the world that day.
If you hang a seascape so the horizon meets your eye level, you’ll experience it as I did looking up at the sky or down to the ripples across the beach. Light matters too: hang the painting so the light direction in the picture matches the light in your room, and it feels instantly natural to your subconscious. It’s a small adjustment, but it transforms how you connect with a painting.
