This guest from the US began with drawing — learning how to sketch a portrait using tone, shade, and shadow rather than outlines. The next day she turned her eyes to the Cornish coast. We began outside, taking in the perspective and atmosphere, before the weather sent us indoors to paint by the big window overlooking the sea.

Both sessions were meant to last three hours… but when you’re laughing, learning, and discovering more than you ever expected, time runs away.
