A rainy day in Mawgan Porth… and a little star 🌟

She was only five… but before we’d even picked up a brush, she answered one of my “science of seeing” questions that most adults can’t get right. Her parents didn’t know it either — but she beamed and explained she’d learned it from a children’s science programme.

We painted two pictures that afternoon — my standard seascape first, where she soaked up every new technique, and then a shimmering mermaid in iridescent colours. Halfway through, I realised she kept glancing at the sparkly mermaid tattoo on her arm… quietly using it as her reference.

By then, the whole family had drifted in to watch — amazed by her answers, her art, and her smile that never faded. Clever, curious, creative… she absolutely made my day. 💙
