🌊 Adding soft turquoise washes for depth and light.
🌊 Breaking up regimented wave patterns to let the forms flow more organically.
🌊 A subtle hint of detail – like a piece of land with reflected rushes – to anchor the scene and give the water meaning.


These little shifts made such a dramatic difference – and they’re exactly the kind of insights I love sharing to help artists grow their confidence and develop their own techniques.

This painting is gradually taking shape on my easel, inspired by the mesmerising light and stillness of Mawgan Porth. I’ve been layering Jo Sonja’s acrylics to let the colours glow and the water feel alive with movement.


At 40” x 20”, it’s a substantial piece – and I’m hoping it will be finished in the next few days. 💙


I’ve photographed the whole process as it’s unfolded…
