A Serene Day of Painting at Mawgan Porth
Two days ago the beach at Mawgan Porth was at its most peaceful — still, calm and filled with a quiet beauty. I had the privilege of teaching a three-hour painting lesson to a wonderful Cornish lady who was eager to sit, look, and learn. Wrapped at first in a soft primrose yellow blanket, she began by sketching the shoreline and the distant headland. As the hours passed, she built up the sea, sky and atmosphere, creating a painting that drew the admiration of passers-by. Many stopped to chat and connect, adding to the warmth of the afternoon. When we finally packed away the easels, we sat together with steaming flasks of tea, watching the tide recede. It was one of those moments where time feels suspended — simple, human, and full of joy. The kindness didn’t end there. At the close of the session she handed me her yellow blanket, a gesture as thoughtful and beautiful as the day itself. Teaching art is never only about technique. It’s about opening a space where people can feel calm, notice the world more deeply, and leave with both a painting and a memory they’ll treasure. 📍 Mawgan Porth, Cornwall — a place where art and life meet in the gentlest way.
